Understanding our admission criteria and age requirements
American World School welcomes applications from students of all backgrounds. Our admission criteria are designed to identify students who will thrive in our rigorous yet supportive learning environment.
We consider each application holistically, looking at academic readiness, social-emotional development, and alignment with our school values.
What we look for in prospective students
Students must meet minimum age requirements for their grade level. Early Years begins at age 3, with specific cut-off dates for each division.
Previous academic records, teacher recommendations, and grade-appropriate assessments help us understand each student's learning profile.
As an English-medium school, students should demonstrate age-appropriate English language skills. ESL support is available for qualifying students.
We look for students who demonstrate curiosity, respect, and a willingness to contribute positively to our diverse community.
Specific requirements by division
Age verification, readiness assessment through play-based observation, and parent interview. No prior schooling required.
Previous school records, English and Maths assessment, student interaction session, and parent-student interview.
Academic transcripts, standardised assessments in core subjects, writing sample, and student interview.
Complete academic history, subject-specific assessments, personal essay, teacher recommendations, and family interview.
We offer English as a Second Language (ESL) support for students who need additional language development. An assessment will determine the appropriate level of support.
Yes, we accept mid-year transfers subject to space availability. The same entry requirements apply, with additional consideration for curriculum alignment.
We conduct age-appropriate assessments rather than formal entrance exams. These help us understand each student's learning profile and ensure proper placement.
