Grades 6–8 | Ages 11–14 | Where Purpose Meets Possibility

Home Academics Middle School
Where Purpose Meets Possibility

The middle school years are unlike any other. Students are discovering who they are, what they believe, and what kind of person they want to become. At AWS, we’ve built a Middle School experience that honours this extraordinary developmental stage.

Our Junior Scholars programme is designed not just to move students through content, but to shape thinkers, collaborators, communicators, and entrepreneurs who are ready for the rigour and independence of high school and beyond.

What Makes AWS Middle School Distinctive

Personalised Learning Journey

No two Junior Scholars follow exactly the same path. Our flexible approach allows students to revisit foundations or accelerate into deeper territory. Students demonstrating exceptional readiness may participate in high school level courses.

Community Built on Connection

Mixed-age interactions create natural opportunities for collaboration and peer mentorship. Upper School students frequently lead academic discussions and mentor younger peers in clubs and activities.

Independence with Support

Small class sizes, weekly advisory groups, and dedicated teacher relationships ensure every Junior Scholar feels supported, valued, and genuinely seen as they navigate these formative years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “student-centred” actually mean at the Middle School level?
Student-centred means that the student is the organising principle of learning. Students have meaningful agency over their pace, their Exploratory choices, Goal Time, and how they demonstrate understanding.
How does AWS handle students significantly ahead or behind grade level?
Students significantly ahead may access advanced or high school level coursework. Students who need to strengthen foundations are supported through Goal Time, Advisory support, and targeted teacher guidance — without stigma.
Why is there a minimal homework policy?
Evidence from the world’s highest-performing education systems shows that minimal homework, paired with rich school-day learning, produces stronger academic outcomes. Students are more rested, engaged, and capable of deep thinking.
What entrepreneurship experiences do Junior Scholars have?
Applied Learning projects with real entrepreneurial design, Life Skills Lab with financial literacy, Exploratory business courses, and the broader culture of AWS which is itself entrepreneurial in nature.
