Real-world projects that develop real-world skills
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a cornerstone of the AWS educational experience. Students work on meaningful, extended projects that address real-world problems and questions, developing deep content knowledge alongside essential 21st-century skills.
Through PBL, students learn to research, collaborate, think critically, and present their work to authentic audiences — skills that serve them well beyond the classroom.
How project-based learning works at AWS
Every project begins with a compelling question or challenge that sparks curiosity and guides student inquiry throughout the project.
Students engage in rigorous research, investigation, and iteration over extended periods, developing deep understanding of complex topics.
Projects address authentic problems and connect to community needs, industry challenges, or global issues that matter.
Students create tangible products or presentations shared with real audiences beyond the classroom, adding purpose and accountability.
PBL projects are extended (weeks to months), address real-world problems, involve student choice, and result in public products. They integrate multiple subjects and develop collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills.
We use rubrics that assess both the process (research, collaboration, revision) and the product (quality, creativity, effectiveness). Students also engage in self and peer assessment.
